1Time flights suspended

Cape Town - It's official. Low cost airline 1time is bankrupt. The airline is in final liquidation after a final meeting with stakeholders on Friday afternoon.

The airlines final flight was at 15:00 on Friday and no further flights will be held, a 1time executive confirmed to Fin24. 

1time has been under business rescue for a few months under sterling leadership of new CEO Blacky Komani.

The airline owes various institutions including Acsa around R350m.

This comes as a blow to south African consumers and follows shortly after the liquidation of Velvet Sky earlier.

Low-cost airline 1time on Friday filed for liquidation, CEO Blacky Komani told Eyewitness News on Friday.

There have been questions around the airline’s finances for several months now, but the company maintained that it could stay afloat.

Komani said, “We have decided to suspend services with effect from this afternoon.”

He said that all flights have now been grounded and that the company is in talks with other carriers to assist stranded passengers.

The CEO added the company would set up a hotline for passengers.

“There is nothing else to say. I'm too emotional.”

The 1time website was down on Friday afternoon.
