Australia: Evacuations in Queensland due to bush fires

Hundreds of Australians have evacuated their homes due to bushfires amid unusual weather conditions in the state of Queensland, says BBC.

About 40 bushfires are burning across the state following a heatwave. The most serious blaze is north of Brisbane and has destroyed at least two homes, damaged four others and prompted evacuation orders.

The largest bushfire has burnt through approximately 17,000 hectares in the Deepwater National Park, with a fire front about 60km long.

It began on Saturday and is expected to remain a threat in coming days. The region is forecast to experience further strong winds, dry conditions and hot temperatures this week.

Travellers are informed to evacuate these specific areas.
