USA: State of emergency declared for tropical storm

A state of emergency has been declared in Louisiana and Mississippi as a result of Tropical Storm Gordon, the BBC reports.

Gordon made landfall on Tuesday, September 4, just west of the Alabama Mississippi border.

Thousands of people were reported to be without power, as sustained wind speeds reached up to 110km/h.

Warnings that there may be “life-threatening” storm surges have been issued.
